Description
Gobi 65 is a South Indian-style crispy fried cauliflower dish, inspired by the original Chicken 65 recipe from Chennai. Popular as a vegetarian starter or street food item, it features bold spices, vibrant color, and a crunchy texture that appeals to both traditional and fusion food lovers across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
Cauliflower florets are marinated in a batter made from cornflour, rice flour, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, and a touch of yogurt or lemon juice. The florets are deep-fried until golden and crispy, then tossed with curry leaves, slit green chilies, and crushed garlic in hot oil. Some versions include a dry tempering with mustard seeds or a light chili-garlic sauce for added flavor.
Gobi 65 is widely served in messes, tea shops, and restaurants across Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore, and remains a popular Indo-fusion appetizer in South Indian communities in Brampton, Calgary, and Mississauga.
