Description
Gobi Manchurian (Gravy) is a popular Indo-Chinese fusion dish made with crispy fried cauliflower florets simmered in a thick, spicy-tangy sauce. This dish originated in the street food stalls of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, where Chinese flavors were adapted to Indian tastes, resulting in bold, satisfying meals.
Cauliflower florets are marinated in cornflour, rice flour, and mild spices, then deep-fried to golden crispness. These are then tossed in a flavorful sauce made with garlic, ginger, soy sauce, chili sauce, vinegar, onions, bell peppers, and spring onions. The gravy version has a saucy consistency, perfect for pairing with fried rice or noodles.
Gobi Manchurian is especially popular in vegetarian households and Indo-Chinese restaurants across Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, and continues to be a staple in tiffin centers and fusion eateries in cities like Mississauga, Brampton, and Calgary.
