Description
Chappathi, also known as chapati or roti, is a traditional Indian flatbread made from whole wheat flour and water, kneaded into a soft dough and cooked on a flat griddle. Though commonly associated with North Indian cuisine, chappathi has become a staple across South Indian households, particularly in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, where it is often paired with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian side dishes.
Cooked without oil, chappathis are light, soft, and nutritious, making them a preferred choice for daily meals. They are usually served with curries such as vegetable kurma, egg roast, beef fry, or chicken masala. In Kerala homes, chappathi is often part of dinner or packed tiffin meals.
Its simplicity and versatility have made it a dietary mainstay not only in Indian kitchens but also among South Asian communities in cities like Brampton, Edmonton, and Calgary.
