Description
Fish Biryani is a coastal South Indian rice dish made with marinated fish layered with basmati rice, herbs, and aromatic spices. Commonly prepared in regions like Malabar, Thoothukudi, and Visakhapatnam, it combines the gentle flavor of fish with the richness of traditional biryani masala.
The fish—usually seer, kingfish, or pomfret—is marinated with turmeric, chili powder, and lemon juice, then lightly fried or cooked in a spiced onion-tomato masala with green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, and garam masala. Fragrant basmati rice is cooked separately with whole spices and layered with the fish, fried onions, mint, and coriander. The biryani is finished using dum or gentle steaming for perfect fusion of flavors.
Fish Biryani is a festive seafood delicacy in homes and coastal eateries across Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and remains a favorite among biryani lovers in Mississauga, Scarborough, and Brampton.
