Description
Beef Malli Peralan is a richly spiced semi-dry beef preparation from Kerala, particularly popular in Christian households across Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Thrissur. The term malli refers to coriander, which is the dominant spice in the dish, lending it a warm, earthy aroma and deep flavor.
Tender beef pieces are slow-cooked with a thick, dark masala made from roasted coriander seeds, black pepper, green chilies, ginger, garlic, and shallots. Curry leaves and coconut oil enhance the fragrance, while slow roasting gives the dish a caramelized texture and bold finish. The consistency is typically thick, allowing the masala to coat each piece of beef completely.
Beef Malli Peralan is commonly served with Kerala parotta, pathiri, or rice, and remains a signature dish during festive gatherings and Sunday meals in Kerala homes, as well as among Malayali communities in Mississauga, Calgary, and Brampton.
