Description
Goat Biryani, also known as Mutton Biryani, is a rich and aromatic rice dish made with tender goat meat, basmati rice, and a carefully balanced blend of spices. Traditionally slow-cooked using the dum method, this dish is a weekend and festive staple in both Muslim and Hindu households across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh.
The goat meat is marinated in yogurt, turmeric, chili powder, and whole spices, then cooked until tender in a masala base of onions, tomatoes, ginger-garlic paste, and garam masala. Long-grain basmati rice is cooked separately with whole spices and layered over the meat masala along with fried onions, mint, and coriander. The biryani is sealed and slow-steamed to bring all flavors together.
Goat Biryani is commonly served with raita, boiled egg, and salna or gravy across Madurai, Coimbatore, and Malabar, and remains a favorite celebratory meal for Indian families in Mississauga, Brampton, and Scarborough.
