Description
Tawa Grilled Fish is a coastal-style preparation where marinated fish is seared on a flat iron griddle, known as a tawa, to achieve a smoky, crispy exterior and tender interior. Widely popular in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, this dish is often served as a starter or side with rice and curry.
The fish—typically seer, pomfret, or sardine—is marinated in a blend of red chili powder, turmeric, black pepper, lemon juice, and crushed garlic. It is then shallow-fried or grilled on a hot tawa with coconut or gingelly oil until golden brown and lightly charred. A final garnish of curry leaves or sliced onions adds freshness and aroma.
Tawa Grilled Fish is a favorite in coastal homes and seafood eateries across Kochi, Thoothukudi, and Vizag, and remains a go-to grilled dish among South Indian families in Mississauga, Brampton, and Scarborough.
