Description
Tawa Paneer is a semi-dry North Indian dish made by sautéing paneer cubes with a spicy onion-tomato masala on a flat iron griddle, or tawa. Originally a street-style preparation from Punjabi dhabas, it has become a popular vegetarian starter and main course in restaurants and homes across South India as well.
Soft paneer cubes are first pan-seared until golden, then tossed with onions, tomatoes, green chilies, bell peppers, and a blend of spices such as coriander, garam masala, and dry mango powder. The dish is cooked over high heat on the tawa, giving it a smoky flavor and slightly crisp texture, while the masala remains thick and coats the paneer well.
Tawa Paneer is served with chapati, roti, or paratha, and is commonly featured in vegetarian meals across Chennai, Hyderabad, and Coimbatore, as well as among Indian families in Mississauga, Brampton, and Edmonton.
