Description
Vegetable Biryani is a fragrant, one-pot rice dish made with basmati rice, mixed vegetables, and aromatic Indian spices. Known for its balanced flavors and vibrant presentation, this vegetarian version of biryani is widely prepared across South India during festivals, family gatherings, and everyday meals.
The dish includes sautéed vegetables like carrots, beans, green peas, and potatoes, cooked in a base of onions, tomatoes, mint, ginger-garlic paste, and biryani spices. The vegetables are layered with partially cooked basmati rice, fried onions, and herbs, then cooked using the dum method or gently steamed to infuse flavor. A touch of saffron milk or rose water may be added for aroma.
Vegetable Biryani is commonly served with raita, pickle, or kurma across Coimbatore, Chennai, and Kochi, and continues to be a staple in vegetarian and festive menus among Indian families in Mississauga, Brampton, and Calgary.
